Seeking a dedicated space for worship, the Sabha acquired land on North Mada Street
in Villivakkam. Over time, this place, known as the Bhajanai Madom, hosted regular
Ayyappa poojas and bajanais under Sri Sukumaran’s guidance. As their aspirations
grew, the Sabha decided to build a temple, beginning with a black granite idol of
Sri Ayyappan crafted by expert sculptor Professor Sri Vanmainathan Sthapathi. The
idol arrived at the Madom in December 1980, and soon, plans for a full temple
structure followed, designed by Kerala’s Kanippaiyur Sri Krishnan Kutty Gupthan.
Construction of the temple complex, including sanctums for Sri Sakthi Vinayagar, Sri
Murugan, and Sri Ayyappan, was undertaken by Sri Gomathi Sankar Sthapathi and team.
After years of dedicated efforts, the Maha Kumbabishekam ceremony took place in
1994, led by the Sabarimala Chief Priest Brahmasri Kandararu Neelakandararu.
Uniquely, our temple features Swamy Ayyappan’s idol positioned above the Sadhadhara
Pradishta, with poojas conducted by Namboodiris in the traditional Kerala style.
The Sabha’s initiatives continued, with a towering 9-foot deepasthambam added in
1994, followed by the addition of the Dr. C. Mohan Reddy Maha Mandapam in 2017 to
serve the growing number of devotees. This was soon complemented by an Annadhanam
Mandapam to accommodate the vibrant Annadhanam program. In 2019, the Golden Jubilee
Mahotsavam celebrated 50 years of dedication, coinciding with the Sathabishekam of
the founder.
Today, the Sri Ayyappa Bhaktha Jana Sabha is embarking on a new journey to
build a temple for Lord Guruvayoorappan near the existing Ayyappan temple. We invite
all devotees to join us in this holy endeavor, seeking the blessings of both Lord
Ayyappan and Lord Guruvayoorappan.
